Over decades F.C. Gundlach assembled an impressive library about photography. No matter what country or city his profession as a fashion photographer took him to, a visit to a bookshop was a must for him. Today he confesses with a wink in his eye: "No bookshop was safe from me".
Over the years various reference libraries came into existence, not only at his primary residence but also at his secondary residences and his offices. With the establishment of the F.C. Gundlach Foundation in the year 2000, all existing libraries were combined. The resulting library of the F.C. Gundlach Foundation was methodically accessed and positioned in the following years.
Since the founding of the House of Photography in 2003, it has been a central desire of F.C. Gundlach to integrate a well-assorted and efficient library as scientific centrepiece.
Since March 2009 a major part of the F.C. Gundlach Library is placed in the House of Photography and, thanks to the support of ‘Freundeskreis der Photographie e.V.’, is open to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays as a reference library from 2pm to 6pm .
